From 1 January 2027, all residential properties must be fitted with photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in accordance with state legislation. The requirements apply to homeowners, landlords and sellers.
Smoke alarms must be installed in each bedroom, in hallways connecting sleeping areas, and on every storey of the dwelling. Where there is no hallway, alarms must be positioned between bedrooms and the remainder of the home.
All required alarms must be interconnected, meaning when one alarm detects smoke, all alarms in the property activate simultaneously. This provides whole-home warning, improving occupant safety.
The alarms must also comply with Australian Standard AS 3786:2014 and be less than 10 years old from the date of manufacture.
Our wireless interconnected photoelectric systems are suitable for installation in accordance with the Qld 2027 smoke alarm requirements.
While these 2027 requirements apply specifically to Queensland, many homeowners' interstate choose to adopt the same interconnected photoelectric standard as a best-practice approach to home safety.
